Anne of Green Gables Books

Everyone loves Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.  It is a wonderfully written story that has remained popular for more than 100 years.

If you are looking for a book for a pre-teen, teen or even a woman who loves to read but who hasn't yet met Anne Shirley, you cannot go wrong choosing Anne of Green Gables so long as you, in our opinion, avoid the recent and very controversial Anne of Green Gables book cover.

Since Anne of Green Gables is a book that is likely to become a permanent part of a book lover's collection, we would choose a hardcover edition. Therefore, most, but not all of the Anne of Green Gables books on this page are hardcover versions.  Though we like all of these covers, if we were trying to appeal to a young person, we would pick one of the books with Anne Shirley on the cover.

Anne of Green Gables Book (Laura Fernadez and Rick Jacobsen)

The book shown at the top of this page depicts Anne Shirley anxiously waiting on a bench at the train station for someone to pick her up not knowing, of course, what the future holds in store for her. It features artwork by Laura Fernadez and Rick Jacobsen.

The second cover is a more mature but still very appealing one with the green stripes and an image of Anne's (now) vintage luggage. This version of the book contains an afterword by Canadian author Margaret Atwood and is done in paperback.

Anne of Green Gables Edition (Scott McKowen and Christina Poddubiuk)

This Sterling Classics hardcover version once again features Anne on the cover, this time in the wagon with Matthew Cuthbert on the way to the Cuthbert farm.  It features illustrations by the team of Scott McKowen and Christina Poddubiuk.

The Official 100th Anniversary Edition Anne of Green Gables is also a lovely hardcover book though perhaps, because of its artwork depicting a woman of the era that the book was originally written in and perhaps reminiscent of Lucy Maud Montgomery herself, that we believe is more suitable for an older reader.

Because Anne of Green Gables is now in the public domain, the book has been reprinted time and time again.  There are tons of choices available including hardcover books with different covers, paperback books, boxed book sets or collections and yes, of course, versions for your eReader.  You can visit Amazon's collection of Anne of Green Gables books, by clicking here.

No matter which one you might choose, we believe that Anne of Green Gables is a TOP-RATED GIFT IDEA for any girl, teen or woman who loves to read. Would you agree?
